FIONA, PRECIOUS BABY

When we bought our farm, Nifty the horse was part of the deal.
A free horse?!
No such thing.

According to all our neighbors in the country, Nifty had lived a lonely life. He had no friends.
Horses are herd animals that enjoy social interaction.
Nifty could only stare across the road and wish that he was with all the other horses on our neighbor's property.

Since we would not be at the farm full time, we knew we had to find a companion for Nifty.
Everyone told us that a donkey would be the perfect friend. They are low maintenance and will protect their "family"...

Driving to the dump one day, the kids and I passed a sign: DONKEYS FOR SALE
It screamed out to us and I knew we had our answer. TURN!

The donkey shopping experience was a hoot. The donkey lady, Helen, drove us around her acreage in an off road golf cart.
There were donkey statues and memorabilia all over the place. My favorite was the JACKASS CROSSING road sign.
I know where a few of those signs could go...

There were 96 donkeys to choose from..ONLY.
It was not a tough choice as soon as we spotted a small chocolate colored donkey.
She was # 32
Once we petted her soft coat and saw her pouty lips, we knew she was ours.. Or Niftys, I mean..

Naming her Fiona was a unanimous decision. It just fit her perfectly.

Fiona has been with us for months now. We cannot imagine not having her. Neither can Nifty.
The two of them are best friends, pasture mates, I got yer back friends...like bread and butter.

Finally! A friend for Nifty
